Leica's New Camera M EV1 expected to launch on October 23, 2025

ShutterCount 2 Mins Read

Leica is reportedly preparing to launch the M EV1, a new addition to its M-series lineup that replaces the traditional rangefinder with a built-in electronic viewfinder. The camera is said to combine the classic M-mount with a modern digital interface, offering a purist design aimed at manual focus photographers who prefer a clean shooting experience.

Unlike previous M models, Leica M EV1 will not include an optical or hybrid viewfinder. Instead, it is expected to feature a high-resolution 5.76MP OLED EVF with 0.76x magnification and support for focus aids and diopter adjustment.

The camera may include a full frame BSI CMOS sensor with triple-resolution output: 60MP, 36MP, and 18MP. It will be powered by the Maestro III image processor and offer 64GB of internal storage.

Leica M EV1 is expected to resemble the Leica Q series more than the traditional M body. It may feature diamond-pattern leatherette and a simplified front without the rangefinder window. Leica’s Content Credentials system will be included to verify image authenticity.

Autofocus is not expected, as the M-mount lenses are manual focus only. The camera will likely appeal to experienced Leica users who value manual control, optical quality, and minimalist design.
