Nikon has quietly registered a new camera body under the code name N2527 in China. This follows the earlier N2324 registration, bringing Nikon’s tally of registered but unreleased cameras to two. The registration was discovered through Asian certification authorities and reported by Nikon Rumors.
Two cameras in the pipeline
The N2527 is the second unannounced Nikon camera to appear in regulatory filings. The first, N2324, was previously spotted in Indonesian certification records. Having two registered bodies at the same time suggests Nikon is actively preparing multiple new products behind the scenes.
Regulatory registrations are a strong signal that a product is nearing production. Manufacturers typically file these certifications a few months before an official announcement. The presence of both N2324 and N2527 points to a busy launch cycle ahead.
What could N2527 be
Nikon’s current rumored roadmap includes several potential candidates. The most anticipated is the Z9II, which has been the subject of ongoing speculation. Nikon is also believed to be working on a mirrorless camera without an electronic viewfinder, designed specifically for still photography. This model would be similar in concept to the ZR cinema line but optimized for photographers. An APS-C body is also rumored.
Which of these matches N2527 is unclear. The Z9II would be the flagship option, but a more affordable body or a specialized stills camera are equally plausible at this stage.
Registration patterns
Nikon’s naming convention for internal camera codes does not directly reveal much about the product category. The N prefix followed by four digits has been used across multiple model types in the past. Without additional clues, the registrations could point to anything from a high-end Z-series body to a more niche product.
What is clear is that Nikon is moving multiple products through certification simultaneously. This level of regulatory activity typically precedes a significant product launch event.
What to expect
Nikon has not commented on either registration. Official details remain under wraps. Given typical timelines between certification and announcement, we may see one of these cameras surface in the coming months. The other could follow later in the year or into 2027.
