Sony Alpha 7V Expected to Launch in October or November 2025 with a New Sensor
The long-awaited successor to Sony’s Alpha 7 IV is getting closer. Several reliable sources, including Sony Alpha Rumors, Digital Camera World, and TechRadar, report that the Sony Alpha 7V (A7V) will be announced in October or November 2025.
This fifth-generation model is not just a small refresh. It is expected to bring a new sensor, stronger autofocus, and long-requested video upgrades. Many see it as the new standard for hybrid full-frame cameras.
A New Sensor at the Core
The A7V will not reuse the 33MP sensor from the A7 IV. Instead, it is said to feature a completely new design.
Resolution is still unclear. Some reports suggest 33MP, others point to 44MP.
What seems certain is that the new sensor will improve low-light performance and dynamic range.
This places the A7V between the high-resolution A7R V and the speed-focused A9 III.
Autofocus and Performance
The A7V is expected to include an AI-powered autofocus system. It should offer better subject recognition and tracking than the A7R V.
Continuous shooting may reach 20fps. Readout speeds for the electronic shutter will be faster.
In high-speed modes, RAW capture may be limited to 12-bit.
Video Upgrades
One of the most important changes is uncropped 4K at 60p. This fixes a major weakness of the A7 IV.
4K at 30p will likely use full-frame oversampling. 4K at 60p may rely on a Super 35 crop.
Video quality is rumored to be close to Sony’s BURANO XAVC standard.
There is no sign of 8K recording.
Body and Usability
The electronic viewfinder will rise to 5.0M dots. This is a clear step up from the 3.68M-dot EVF in the A7 IV.
The body design is said to take cues from the A9 III and Alpha 1 II. Grip and heat management should be improved.
The LCD will be fully articulating, similar to the A7R V.
Price and Market Position
The A7V is expected to launch at around 3000 USD. This makes it more expensive than the A7 IV but still below Sony’s flagship models.
Its main competitor will likely be the Canon EOS R6 Mark III. That places the A7V as Sony’s all-rounder for both enthusiasts and professionals.
Final Thoughts
If these rumors are accurate, the Sony Alpha 7V will be a major step forward. A new sensor, AI autofocus, 20fps bursts, and uncropped 4K at 60p could make it the most balanced hybrid camera of 2025.
The official announcement is expected in October or November 2025.
