SIGMA 3 Mins Read

On August 19, 2025, SIGMA officially released the 200mm F2 DG OS Sports telephoto prime lens, designed specifically for full-frame mirrorless cameras. The lens employs a 14-group, 19-element optical structure that includes 2 FLD (Fluorite-level) elements and 2 SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements to effectively suppress chromatic aberration.

The new lens will be available in Leica L-Mount and Sony E-mount versions, with a U.S. price set at $3,299. It is scheduled to begin shipping on September 9.

The SIGMA 200mm F2 DG OS Sports is designed to balance optical performance with portability. Its 14-group, 19-element configuration includes 2 FLD and 2 SLD elements, which work together to correct chromatic aberrations commonly found in telephoto lenses.

The lens incorporates an HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motor for fast and quiet autofocus, along with an upgraded OS2 optical stabilization system that provides up to 6.5 stops of shake reduction—ideal for low-light and action scenarios.

The exterior features a heat-insulating coating that minimizes temperature rise in hot environments. The lens is also built with dust- and moisture-resistant sealing, and the front element includes water- and oil-repellent coatings for added durability during outdoor use.

The 200mm F2 DG OS Sports excels in various shooting scenarios:

  • Bokeh Quality: The combination of a 200mm focal length and F2 maximum aperture produces strong background blur (bokeh) and compression, making subjects stand out.
  • Backlit Performance: Super Multi-Layer Coating and Nano Porous Coating (NPC) significantly reduce flare and ghosting, even in challenging light.
  • Close Focusing: With a minimum focusing distance of 170cm and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:7.6, it performs well in near-distance applications.
  • Video Support: The HLA motor enables smooth and precise autofocus suitable for video, and the lens includes a switch for de-clicked aperture control.

This lens is well-suited for portrait, sports, and wildlife photography. The large F2 aperture allows for faster shutter speeds in dim light, while the HLA autofocus and image stabilization help capture fast-moving subjects with clarity.
