Canon Cinema EOS C50 Set to Debut, Positioned as Sony FX3 Competitor

Canon 1 Mins Read

Canon USA has announced via social media that it will hold a new product launch event on September 9, timed just ahead of the IBC exhibition—a strong indication that the unveiling will focus on professional imaging.

Based on multiple recent leaks, the new product is highly likely to be the EOS C50, a new addition to the Cinema EOS lineup. Positioned as the successor to the EOS R5 C, it is expected to retain the core architecture of the R5 series while enhancing video capabilities to compete directly with the Sony FX3.

According to current information, the EOS C50’s hardware specifications are anticipated to align closely with the EOS R5 Mark II, including a high-resolution full-frame sensor and a next-generation processor. It will also incorporate more professional features tailored for filmmakers, such as improved thermal management, expanded connectivity options, and greater recording flexibility.

It is worth noting that Canon is also developing an APS-C format Cinema EOS camera, though it remains unconfirmed whether this model will be introduced at the same event.

Official detailed specifications for the EOS C50 have not yet been released. We will continue to monitor developments and expect more information to emerge as the launch date approaches.
